The programme is divided into two distinct phases: the PG Certificate in High Performance Sport and the European Master in High Performance Sport. This structure ensures a comprehensive blend of theoretical learning and practical application, preparing you to excel in the tourism industry.
Phase 1
The PG Certificate in High Performance Sports: Strength and Conditioning comprises the first three semester, offering a series of specialised courses that provide foundational knowledge and practical skills essential for effective strength and conditioning.
Research Methodology 1 (6 ECTS)
Introduction to the fundamental concepts of scientific research methodology applied to the field of sports and physical activity. Students will acquire skills to design, conduct, and evaluate research projects, focusing on research designs, literature review, and management of scientific databases.
Research and Computer Methods in Strength and Conditioning (6 ECTS)
Introduction to statistical methods used in sports science research, including hypothesis testing, regression models, and ANOVA. Students will utilise statistical software (e.g., JAMOVI) to analyse performance data and evaluate published research in the field of strength and conditioning.
Scientific Principles of Strength and Conditioning (6 ECTS)
Covers the scientific mechanisms behind force production and muscle adaptation to training. Students will explore neural and mechanical factors that influence strength and power and learn advanced methods for assessing strength in athletes.
Research Methodology 2 (6 ECTS)
This advanced course delves deeper into specific aspects of scientific research, focusing on statistical data analysis and the interpretation of results in sports and physical activity research. Students will explore both quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods and the process of publishing scientific work in high-impact journals. Practical activities will include using statistical software to conduct analyses and learning effective techniques for presenting research findings.
Exercise Physiology (6 ECTS)
Examination of the physiological responses to exercise, focusing on the musculoskeletal, endocrine, neuromuscular, and cardiorespiratory systems. Emphasis is placed on understanding how these systems adapt to various types of training.
Biomechanics and Movement Analysis (6 ECTS)
In-depth understanding of biomechanical principles underpinning human movement in the context of sports performance. Students will learn to use tools such as force platforms and EMG to analyse movement, aiming to improve efficiency and prevent injury.
Sports Nutrition (6 ECTS)
Covers the essential principles of sports nutrition, focusing on the classification and role of essential nutrients in exercise, the specific dietary needs of athletes, and the use of ergogenic aids. Students will learn to design nutrition plans for athletes in endurance, strength, and team sports, as well as address the use of ergogenic aids.
Program Design as Related to Strength and Conditioning (6 ECTS)
Provides an in-depth exploration of how to design and implement periodised strength and conditioning programmes. Students will study various periodisation models and learn to apply them to both individual and team sports, optimising performance while minimising injury risk.
Strength Training and Conditioning in the Elderly (6 ECTS)
Exploration of the physiological and psychological changes that occur with ageing and how to design strength and conditioning programmes tailored to older adults. Students will learn to evaluate physical fitness and design programmes that enhance functional independence in elderly populations.
Upon successful completion of these nine courses, you will be awarded the PG Certificate in High Performance Sports: Strength and Conditioning. This certification provides the skills and knowledge needed to manage strength and conditioning strategies effectively within the high-performance sports sector.
Phase 2
European Master in High Performance Sport: Strength And Conditioning
To obtain the European Master in High Performance Sport: Strength And Conditioning, graduates of the PG Certificate in High Performance Sport: Strength And Conditioning must complete a Master Thesis and a Professional Internship. This final phase bridges the gap between academic knowledge and practical expertise, providing students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of sports management in real-world settings and hone their leadership skills within the industry.
•Master Thesis: Conduct an in-depth research project on a High Performance Sport: Strength And Conditioning topic of your choice, demonstrating your capacity to tackle complex challenges in the field.
